Daily Entertainment Break: Paris Hilton unveils clothing
line at L.A. boutique
By Natalie Martinez
Paris Hilton may not make the best life choices. But she sure has an
entrepreneurial spirit.
She launched a clothing line yesterday at Kitson boutique (http://www.shopkitson),
a celeb favorite in L.A., according to the Associated Press. Add that
to the other products bearing her name: perfume, jewelry, handbags, hair
extensions (I swear the last one is true; just Google "DreamCatchers").
BTW, Kitson is the place to visit if you're looking for things like skinny
jeans ($275) designed by Victoria "Posh" Beckham.
"It's just Paris style: fun, bright and flashy," Hilton told
the AP about the clothes, which include tops (about $35 for T-shirts;
$70 for blouses) and about $70-$100 for jeans.
The bloggers at "Best Week Ever" (http://www.bestweekever.tv)
are lamenting that the clothes are aimed at children and that, you know,
Hilton isn't the best role model for, well, anyone. To illustrate its
argument, "Best Week's" site includes a link to photos of the
event, showing Hilton posing with little girls dressed like her. Yeah.
Scary.
I can see their point but from what I can tell the clothing is for women
or teens.
The AP also said the launch brought in so many people, a lane of traffic
was closed and cops were called in for crowd control.
According to my colleague and Mercury News fashion editor Donna Kato,
Paris' little sister Nicky Hilton also is still in the fashion game. She's

her new clothing line "Nicholai" at September's New York Fashion
Week. It's a big deal for a celebrity designer like Nicky Hilton, Kato
said, because a show at fashion week means that the industry considers
your work to be legit.
Just in case you missed this in today's paper: Rumors are starting to
swirl that Silicon Valley celeb Steve Wozniak and comedian Kathy Griffin
are dating. We had a small item about it on Page 3A today, citing ContactMusic.com.
A colleague pointed me to a blog post about it this morning on "Best
Week Ever's" site. But neither of the sites give a definitive source
- so decide for yourselves.
It's a good weekend to head to the cineplex. Our reviewers rave about
a handful of new flicks: "Superbad," "No End in Sight,"
"Arctic Tale." See what they had to say at http://www.mercurynews.com/entertainment.
